Trend Micro's New Email Archiving Product
Trend Micro has just launched an email archiving product. It's aimed at organizations with 100 to 1,000 employees. Key points are:

  • Initially works with Exchange 2003. Exchange 2007 and Notes/Domino support will come later in 2008.
  • Wizards make installation simple.
  • Protects against people snooping through others' mail.
  • Search features include: proximity, fuzzy logic (words that are similar, including misspelled words), stemming (e.g., search for "runner" also gets "run" and "running"), wildcards, results are ranked with the most relevant presented first.
  • Discovery features include: privileged users can search any email or attachment in the organization, search results can be saved to a folder where the user can add comments as well as tag important messages for follow-up or ignore, search results can be exported from the archive in native format.
  • Pricing is simple, typically $30 to $40 per user per year. No Chinese menus; you get everything for one price.

If it performs more or less as claimed above, the product might do well. Trend sells pretty much everything through channels, and integrators should be delighted to push this product. ... David Ferris
